Osun: Philanthropist donates classrooms, staff office to alma mater

A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), philanthropist, and alumnus of the Ogedengbe School of Science, Ilesa, Prince Oluwaseun Adeloye Famoriyo Sabalo, on Thursday, donated a block of two classrooms and a staff office building to the school as his contribution to giving back to his alma mater.

Speaking at the event organised under the aegis of the Prince Sabalo Support Foundation, owned by the donor and held at the premises of the school, the founder said he built the building to make learning conducive for students in the school.

According to him: “If learning takes place in a conducive environment, effective learning will occur, and there would be effective assimilation of knowledge, which would empower students to become productive in any given environment they might find themselves.”

Sabalo, who appreciated his old school for its contributions towards his success in life, described the gesture as a necessity, which he ought to have done earlier, and thanked God for giving him the grace to add value to the school.

He described the kind of education received in the school then as second to none and assured that, in the near future, he prays he could return to add more to the donated building.

The alumnus charged students of the school to be serious with their studies, describing education as a necessary tool for them to reach their zenith in life.

Sabalo thereafter admonished them not to join bad gangs that could hinder their educational pursuits and bring disrepute to their various homes, saying it is only through dedication and seriousness that they could achieve their dreams of becoming great in life.

While commissioning the project, the elder sister of Governor Ademola Adeleke, Yeyeluwa Modupe Adeleke Sanni, described the gesture as commendable and urged the donor not to relent in adding more value to humanity.

She remarked that the government cannot do everything and urged other philanthropists in society, including other alumni who have not contributed to the growth and development of the school, to do so to make their school more vibrant.

In his speech, the State Commissioner for Education, Hon Eluwole Sunday Adedipo, appreciated the donor for thinking along the lines of adding value to knowledge.

He argued that what Sabalo did for the school would forever linger in the minds of progressive individuals in the academic circle and those who understand the importance of education.
