Speaking at the graduation programme organised for the beneficiaries who had successfully been trained and certified competent, Chief Owolabi, who is the Oluomo of Ife, said the nation needed to ensure that citizenry are trained in one skill or vocation notwithstanding the level of their education.
While noting that he did not sponsor the training programme because of his political ambition in the state. He said did it because he derived happiness in assisting the youths.
He said the nation is experiencing dare challenges because there is no sincere leadership. According to him, someone needs to influence others to achieve common goals. For there to be effective leadership, leaders must have intelligence, humility and integrity. If such leaders lack the last two, forget about the first one.
Explaining why he was seeking to govern the state, Oluomo Gbenga Owolabi said: “I am not seeking leadership position for financial gain, but to provide effective and visionary leadership to the people of Osun State.”
He therefore promised to continue to impact positively on the life of Osun citizenry across ethnic and religious lines even as he advised the beneficiaries who have become entrepreneurs to make profitable use of the skills and vocations acquired.
Also speaking, the coordinator of the two weeks vocational and entrepreneurial training programme, Mrs Tejumola Oladimeji, said 55 students resumed for the training while 46 graduated successfully on eight varying skills and vocations.
Mrs Oladimeji said the participants were trained on hair dressing, tailoring, barbing, snacks making, driving, cake making and confectionery and soap making.
While asking youths to make themselves available to be trained, Mrs Oladimeji, the Director of Global Success Concept, urged Nigerians to patronise Nigeria- made goods saying that they are of international quality.
Exhibiting their products, the participants who are from various backgrounds including university graduates, explained that they needed to acquire skills in order to commensurate what they are earning as salaries saying that only salaries could not cater for their needs.
Some of the beneficiaries, Mrs Enitan, Mrs Popoola Omobukola and Mr Arikuyeri thanked Chief Owolabi and Mrs Oladimeji for the programme, saying it has helped in reducing the rate of unemployed youths on the street.
