Osun communities urged to key into EAD ahead 2018 census

THE Federal Commissioner in charge of the National Population Commission (NPC) in Osun State, Chief Lere Oyewumi, has tasked communities in the state to key into Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) exercise ahead 2018 population census.

Oyewumi said the exercise commenced by NPC  was crucial to planning and identifying the demographic needs of rural and urban communities in the state.

The NPC boss, who stated this during a press conference to herald the exercise in Obokun Local Government Area of the state, explained that  EAD constitutes the foundation on which the entire census architecture stands and it forms the basis for the planning and execution of the census project.

He said: “The EAD is the vehicle that drives the entire census process in the pre-census, actual enumeration and post census period.

“The significance of the EAD exercise goes beyond the conduct of the 2018 census as we plan to establish and maintain a national frame, including locality list and house numbering for future census and surveys in line with the mandate of the commission under section 24 of the Third Schedule of the 1999 constitution.”

Oyewumi maintained that the methodology for the census was designed to achieve full geographic information system compliance and high resolution satellite imagery would be used to ensure that no area is left undemarcated or duplicated.

According to him: “Any attempt to include non-existent households and buildings in the enumerated areas will be detected through satellite imagery. Personal Digital Assistance (PDA) will also be used in capturing spatial data and estimate enumerated areas during demarcation.”
