Osun 2018: Stop using security agents to harass Adeleke, PDP tells Aregbeslola, APC

AGAINST the build-up to the conduct of September 22 governorship election in Osun, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Sunday told Governor Rauf Aregbesola and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to stop the alleged use of security agents to harass being its standard bearer, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

The party maintained that “no amount of witch-hunt would spare the APC’s candidate, Alhaji Gboyega Isiaka Oyetola defeat in September 22 governorship poll”.

In a statement signed by the deputy national publicity secretary of the PDP, Prince Diran Odeyemi, which was forwarded to the TribuneOnline in Osogbo, the party “fingered the APC in the alleged series of plots to discredit Osun PDP governorship candidate”.

According to the statement, “no matter how hard APC try to get people of the state behind its largely unpopular candidate, the resolve of Osun people never to vote for APC remain unchanged”, stressing that “while PDP candidate is busy canvassing for votes from different sections across the state, all we have seen from APC is harassment of our candidate, through police and their other agents.”

The statement reads thus, “rather than being subdued through APC antics, PDP is coasting home to victory, the development that validates the seeming rejection of APC and it’s governorship candidate even ahead of the poll. We can’t be deterred, even with the antics of APC, who has been using police to harass our candidate because people of Osun have remained undaunted in their support for PDP candidate.

However, while reacting to the PDP’s position, the director of publicity, research and strategy of the APC in Osun, Barrister Kunle Oyatomi said the PDP and it’s candidate have nothing to offer the people of Osun State, contending that “we are familiar with the PDP strategy and style. It is not new to us that the only strategy they have is to tell as much lies as possible”.

He further posited that “this time around that they have perhaps the least attractive candidate for governor, they need to tell as much lies as they can because both the party and its candidate have nothing to offer the people of Osun. Osun had experienced PDP government before and they knew the consequences. This time around, their candidate has no political pedigree to write home about”.

“Worse still, he is in a mix-up over certificate forgery. If the man could not get his act right from the beginning, how is that the business of the APC?

We will not be surprised if PDP will not come third in the election. So, if he’s up and around the stage dancing, we don’t know how that can help the PDP. The PDP and all the other opposition parties put together will find out during the election that Osun people are not fools and money has never been known to buying their conscience”, Oyatomi remarked.
