Senator Iyiola Omisore
THE former Chief Medical Director, Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Prof Tolu Odukoya, has commended Senator Iyiola Omisore’s academic and professional approach to politics.
Senator Omisore, a candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the September 22 governorship election in Osun State, recently came up with a five-pillar manifestos of his party, entitled, “Agenda for Restoration of Good Governance and Dignity in Osun State, which he said would primarily focus on human capacity development in the state.
Odukoya, in his commendation note sent to Omisore, on Thursday, on his aspiration to govern the state, lauded the Ife-born politician, on his maturity and scientific approach to politics, which he said, would be of immense benefits to Osun State people if he becomes the state governor, while also praising him for his “generosity, strong and genuine desire to govern Osun State.”
“Iyi, I like the academic and professional approach you are applying to politics. Osun people will surely benefit from your wisdom, generosity and strong and genuine desire to govern Osun State,” Odukoya said.
He specifically expressed satisfaction about Omisore’s present political leaning, while applauding him for dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for SDP, saying, “I am happy you are not in PDP.”
He, thereby, solicited people’s support for Omisore’s ambition, submitting that, “you deserve to be the next governor of Osun State, and I will continue to pray for you. Congratulations in advance.”
Omisore, had, earlier in an interview, speaking about his party’s manifestos, described it as “the SDP Agenda for Restoration in Osun State,” which he called “a vision that is people-centred and responsive to the restoration of good governance and human dignity in Osun State.”

He said it also further sought to establish linkages with national processes to achieve the global Sustainable Development Goals, while in implementation, the agenda, he said, will seek to “maximally harness the state’s human and non human resources towards laying a solid foundation for an enduring turn around of Osun State, as an economically prosperous, socially harmonious and a model in democratic governance in Nigeria.”
This, he said was with a goal to ensure that “everyone, everywhere has access to inputs to thrive, and assets to protect human dignity,” adding that, “the overarching outcome is to ensure well-being for everyone and will contribute significantly to improving professionalism and performance within the public sector.”
Similarly, he said, “it goes further to promote profitability of enterprise, expand investment and assure impact on all including the aged, physically challenged and other vulnerable groups in the state,” such that “by 2030, everyone, everywhere has access to inputs to thrive, and assets to protect human dignity,” Omisore said.
He hinted that, while implementing the agenda, his government will ensure maximal utilisation of local content in the procurement of services and material resources, since he said “challenges with value addition
have been identified as a long-standing obstacle to economic growth and investment in the state, especially in the agricultural sector.”
This particularly, he said affects the agricultural sector, which according to him, is a “very critical sector,” which he said, “engages more than 75% of the population of the state, impacting negatively on the economic yield of major cash crops and produce.”
To sustain development in the Agric sector, Omisore said, “partnerships will drive implementation. It will build
sustainable investment linkages with the private sector and strengthen the engagement of other providers including civil society and community-based organisations.”
