Osun 2018: PDP Youths Movement urges party leaders to shelve differences, ego

Ahead of the conduct of September 2018 governorship election in Osun, the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Youths Progressive Movement, on Saturday said for the opposition party to achieve electoral victory, the party leaders must shelve their differences.

They called on the party leaders to shun divisive tendencies and ego, which they claimed were capable of robbing the PDP victory and anticipated electoral success in the crucial election.

Addressing a press conference in Osogbo, Osun State capital, the coordinator of the PDP Youths Progressive Movement in Osun, Mr Ayobami Makinde said: “We appeal to our leaders to shelve their ego fight and make PDP success paramount in whatever decision they are to take.”

According to him, “we commend Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee and Osun State caretaker committee of our party under the leadership of Alhaji Sarafa Tunji Ishola and his secretary for their steadfastness and for working towards rebuilding the PDP in preparation for next year’s election.”

“We the members of the PDP Progressive Youths Movement, a group comprising mainly of youths within the two factions have decided to come together for a common goal, which is the future of our great party”, Makinde stated.

While contending that members of the group were not in politics to perpetually serve the interest of others, he said ” we have all the while worked and toiled for the success of our party, the PDP many a time on empty stomach, but with focus on the goal and struggle to salvage our party from extinction.”

Makinde continued, “we thank God for crowing our efforts. PDP is today on its feet, not because the party was funded by any moneybag, but because we chose to keep the party alive against pressure from the ruling party to jump ship.”

“We are foot soldiers, but we say enough is enough. We want to take our destiny in our hands and forge a common front that will eventually lead to the emergence of a party which will rescue Osun people from the claws of poverty and frustration. We, however, consider it absurd that no youth was considered good enough to serve in the caretaker committee of our party.”

“We plead with our leaders to ensure that we are given adequate representation in the party executive from ward to state level in the coming congress of our party. To get our total commitment ahead 2018/2019 polls, we hereby request for 40% elective and non-elective positions for youths in Osun PDP”, he submitted.
