Osun 2018: PDP group declares support for Adeleke

AdelekeAdelekeAHEAD of the conduct of September 22 governorship poll in Osun, a socio-political group under the aegis of the Osun Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Women Parliament over the weekend endorsed declared its support for the standard bearer of the party in the exercise, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

The group also urged the leadership of the opposition party to create effective leverage, capable of encouraging women participation in politics by giving them 35 per cent slots in elective offices and political appointments.

Declaring their support for Adeleke during a special meeting held at the state secretariat, located along Biket area of Osogbo, the Osun State coordinator of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Women Parliament, Mrs Remilekun Fakokunde said the group decided to back Adeleke based on his antecedents and track-record to take the party to victory comes September 22 Guber poll.

She hinted that every member of the group had been working assiduously across the length and breadth of the state to mobilise the electorate, most especially the women to collect their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVCs), with a view to casting their votes for the PDP during the governorship election.

Fakokunde said the decision was taken as part of an effort to strengthen the democratic culture, advance its tenets and principles and as well encourage women to participate in politics.

She hinted that the group has mapped out a strategic measure to begin door-to-door electioneering campaign against political apathy, thus motivating people to show interest in politics for national integration, growth and development.

According to her, “The endorsement of Senator Ademola Adeleke as the flag-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party’s PDP by every member of our group remains an indication of victory. We have seen the light in his candidature to take us to victory as we are convinced by his track-record and pedigree to dislodge the incumbent government and its party- the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“As a socio-political group that is concerned about the welfare of humanity particularly women, we are ready to go out to serve, mobilize, canvass and ensure that a large sizeable number of women in the state collect their PVCs and vote for PDP not only in the forthcoming governorship election but in all elections.

“It is time for women to wake up from slumber and be much more alive to their responsibilities at supporting the women’s needs as we are united to support one another by appropriately harnessing our potentials to bring to government women of virtues in all political seats”, Fakokunde asserted.
