Recalling how he emerged in a keenly contested election in June 2015, Yussuf maintained that the developmeht was not a disrespect to the party’s directive as there was no formal invitation to any meeting of APC members of the National Assembly by the prior to the Inauguration of the lower chamber.
Addressing APC members in Ikoyi and Apomu communties of Isokan local government of Osun State, he posited that “when I was vying for the Deputy-Speakership position; they said I cannot make it but I have absolute faith in God who made it possible. Prior to the inauguration, the party hierarchy led by our respected national chairman, Chief John Oyegun did not invite any members of the National Assembly to any meeting.”
He contended that “we were taken aback when a meeting was called recently and many of us (including my humble-self) were labeled as not respecting the party. But the national chairman asked, what did Lasun Yussuff did. The chairman of the committee who is a governor of a state said Lasun Yussuff contested for deputy-speaker against the Party’s directive.”
“In fairness to God and humanity, Chief John Oyegun said, “we did not call for any meeting at that point in time. So it was cleared that a supposed leader of the party who wants to installed his followers as the presiding officers of the national Assembly is the one that called for the meeting”, Yussuff remarked.
He, however, urged the people of Isokan to be hopeful, stressing that “by September, God will deliver Osun State from the present ruler who has neglected the home base politicians”.
Yussuff, who also visited the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, Telu 1 in his palace said, “Kabiyesi, honestly, I know it’s tough and difficult to come and campaign for the number one seat in the land in Iwo, but it’s possible. I have lived all my life of going to sixty in Osun. I know the dynamic and intricacies of Osun politics. And as all politics is local, welfare, security and development must be local.”
He promised that three economically viable roads would be rehabilitated if he becomes the governor of Osun include; Gbongan-Orile-Owu; Iwo-Ede junction and Osogbo-Ilobu-Ogbomosho road.
Responding, Oba Akanbi said, “it’s my prayers that an Iwo indigenes becomes Osun State governor, but Hon. Lasun Yussuff is also my son. But all is left to God”, just as he sought the lawmaker’s intervention on Ibadan-Iwo-Oyo road and Iwo-Osogbo road.”
