AS parts of the moves to shore up electoral fortune of the All Progressives Congress (APC) standard bearer in the forthcoming September 22 governorship poll, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, Osun State governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, Speaker of the state legislature, Hon Najeem Salaam, on Monday moved to communities in Osun West Senatorial District to woo eligible voters ahead the exercise.
Both Aregbesola and Salaam restated the need for the people of Osun State to cast their votes for Oyetola, with a view to promoting steady and uninterrupted social and economic growth of the state.
Addressing a crowd of APC loyalists and members in Gbongan community of Ayedaade local government, Aregbesola appealed to the people to redouble their support for the party’s candidate, saying no efforts should be spared in entrenching good governance and continuity in the state.
While contending that his administration had laid a good foundation that requires a competent and intelligent person to build upon, he described Oyetola as an individual, who leadership qualities and technical expertise would be brought to bear on the collective development and effective governance in Osun State.
Aregbesola explained that his party presented Oyetola to succeed him in the quest to move the state forward and place it on the path of socio-economic prosperity.
He charged the electorate to disregard all forms of the opposition’s antics which he said may undermine electoral principles and democratic tenets.
In his remark, Oyetola assured the people of the Osun West senatorial zone of his commitment to the development of the zone, stressing that but for the economic meltdown witnessed in the last four years, the Aregbesola administration would have completed its development projects listed for the area.
Also, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly and the APC Governorship Aspirant in the party’s primary, Hon. Najeem Salam urged the people of the state to vote for the party’s flag-bearer.
Salaam, who described the victory of Oyetola at the party’s governorship primary as God’s will, said he had taken solace in the fact that a personality like Oyetola emerged as the APC standard bearer.
He debunked the insinuation that all aspirants and co-contestants in the party’s governorship primary have defected to opposition parties, saying there is nothing as such as he and many other aspirants are still in APC.
Salam told APC loyalists particularly his fans to vote for Oyetola in the interest of development, good governance and continuity.
The campaign had in attendance, the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Titilayo Laoye Tomori, some of the APC Governorship Aspirants, members of the State and National Assemblies, Osun APC Chairman, Prince Gboyega Famodun, Members of the State Executive Council among others.
