The Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), Barr Hashim Abioye has unveiled the timetable and schedule of activities for the upcoming Local Government elections in Osun State.
Scheduled for February 22, 2025, the announcement follows a recent parley held by the Commission with the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) and the media.
In adherence to the electoral process, OSSIEC will formally publish the notice of election and the timetable/schedule of activities in the Nigerian Tribune edition of Monday, February 19, 2024, the statement noted.
The timeline stipulates that primary elections by political parties, monitored by the Commission, will take place from July 22 to August 6, 2024.
Registered political parties are required to submit the dates, venues, and times for their primaries to the Commission no later than 21 days before the designated dates.
“Further to the notice of election given earlier by the Commission, the notice of election and the timetable/schedule of activities for the elections will be formally published in the Nigerian Tribune edition of Monday 19th of February, 2024, as the conduct of primary elections by political parties (which is to be monitored by the Commission) will commence on the 22nd July – 6th August 2024.
“It is noteworthy that each registered political party is to indicate the dates, venues and time scheduled for their primaries to the Commission *not later than 21 days* before the appointed dates.
“Final date for submission of list of candidates by parties, according to the timetable, is slated between 30th September, 2024 – 5th October, 2024, while the final date for the publication of names of already screened and qualified candidates is slated between 11th – 15th November 2024.”
