OSMA Awards: Ayodele Ojo seeks govt support as organisers mark 9th edition

The 9th edition of the OSMA Awards took place on October 13, 2024, at the Amazing Place Event Centre in Akure, showcasing Nigeria’s vibrant music industry and honoring top talent.

However, the event also became a platform for Executive Producer Ayodele Ojo to address a pressing concern: the lack of government sponsorship.

In a passionate speech, Ayodele Ojo revealed that despite reaching out to numerous governmental bodies over the years, the OSMA Awards have not received any financial support from the government. As the event approaches its 10th edition, Ojo made a renewed appeal for government backing, stressing the need for their involvement in supporting an industry that has become a global force. “We’ve done this for nine years, and while we’ve had support from brands like ODIRS, it’s time for the government to come through for us,” Ojo stated.

While lamenting the absence of government sponsorship, Ayodele expressed gratitude to the brands that have continuously supported the awards, particularly ODIRS, which has been a consistent backer since the event’s inception. He also thanked the OSMA Awards team for their hard work and dedication, making each edition more successful than the last.

The night was filled with memorable performances, including the “Consolidating Afrobeats” theme song performed by Exteria, King Harrashy, Revelation Tharapman, and Samuel Deslot. Juzzysmizz’s rendition of Watch Your 6 alongside Drizzy Dave and S2DK captivated the audience, adding to the excitement of the evening.

The night saw Juzzysmizz dominate with multiple wins, including Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration, and Music Video of the Year for Watch Your 6, as well as Best Performer. Khay Pantal claimed both Song of the Year and Songwriter of the Year for Louis Vuitton, while Enigango was named Digital Artist of the Year. Other notable winners included S2DK for Best Rap Single, Stingdinero for Best Pop Single, Spencer for Best Alternative Song, and Eassywayz as Best New Act. Special recognition awards went to Sir Demola Suzi and DJ Lakers, with Sir Demola Suzi and Barrister Justina Akeredolu winning Best Dressed Male and Female, respectively.

Looking ahead, Ayodele Ojo hinted at bigger plans for the 10th OSMA Awards, promising an even more exciting and groundbreaking event next year. As the 9th edition set a high bar, anticipation for the 10th OSMA Awards is building, with many hoping for greater support and an even more spectacular show.
