Osibanjo’s wife, Bola Obasanjo, Mama Taraba, others in Anambra, call for women participation in politics

The wife of the Vice President of Nigeria, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo, has charged Nigerian women to participate actively in the trending political development of the country in order to make a difference between the old and the new order.

Mrs Osinbajo argued that the country relies on women more for better creative ideas that would boost the political and social economic well being of the country, just as she called on women to support each other for any polical position during elections.

The call by Mrs Osinbajo was made at the 2018 Mothers Summit held on Friday at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, organised by the wife of Anambra State Governor, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano with the theme, ‘Sustaining Women participation in Politics, prospects and challenges’.

The event was graced by wife of the Vice President, Mrs Dalapo Osinbajo, wife of former President, Barr (Mrs) Bola Obasanjo, wives of governors of Enugu and Delta state, Mrs Monica Ugwuenyi and Mrs Edeth Okowa respectively; Minister of Women Affairs and Sound welfare Sen Aisha Alhassan, former Governor of Anambra State, Dame Virgy Efioba, member representing Orumba South and Chairperson, House Committee on Women Affairs, Anambra House of Assembly, Hon Nikky Ugochukwu among others.

In her speech, Mrs Obiano said the occasion would help to showcase women and their capability in management of homes, and national affairs.

She enjoined the women folk to take courage and come out to vie for any political position, arguing that women can do better in the management and running of political office if given the chance, adding, “Its high time women come out to support one another, build their political will, come out to contest for our political office,” which she said is open to all.

Her Excellency, Mrs Osinbajo believes that the summit would go a long way to encourage Nigeria men to appreciate their women, just as she charged women dragging their feet to wake up and queue behind their women
folk.

Mrs Osinbajo praised Governor Willie Obiano for giving her every encouragement, opportunity and back-up in her endeavors, leading to her success in Women empowerment.

Also speaking, Mrs Bola Obasanjo urged women to look cheerful rather than wearing gloomy faces as they play motherly roles for development of Nigeria. She said, “women should wear captivating and smiling faces, be the vessel God uses to bless the family and possess the heart of God.”

She described Mrs Obiano as a wonderful mother, a free giver and a caring mother, even as she prayed for her long life, Gods protection and successful comer for every women.

She later presented 200 bags of rice, 100 wrappers, 100 sets of plates and 40 prayer booklets to Anambra Women, saying it is to improve lives of women, widows, orphans and less privileged in Anambra state.

In a remark, Senator Aisha Alhassan popularly called ‘Mama Taraba by fans described women as multi talented persons who play multiple roles in the upkeep and caring of the family. She argued that if women can complete in the examination hall with the males, why can’t they compete with them for a political position in an election.
