Special Assistant to Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State on herdsmen matters, Mr Sheu Tambaya has called on Fulani herdsmen residing in the state to adhere strictly to the anti grazing law recently enacted by the state.
Tambaya who spoke to our correspondent in Makurdi, Benue state capital on the heels of the alarm raised by one Garus Gololo alleging that one herdsman, Mohammed Abdukaldire jumped inside river Benue last week.
The aide to the governor advised those herdsman who would not be able to comply with the law to move to other states.
He debunked the report by the national coordinator of Miyeiti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, Garus Gololo and called on police in the state to investigate the matter.
According to him, ‘I want to put the record straight, the report credited to Gololo at the weekend that an herdsman jumped into river Benue was a ruse.’
“I visited the local government early Monday and had useful discussion with the Fulani herdsmen who are presently residing at the coastal areas in the council and told me that nothing of such happened.”
“Also, there is no iota of truth in Gololo’s submission that about 600 cows have been missing, that is why am calling on the state police to investigate the matter by inviting Gololo and to show them proof”.
The governor’s aide stated that their is relative peace in Logo council area after the little rift between the locals and herdsmen which led to the killing of 40 year old man at the fish pond penultimate Thursday.
