Ortom emerges Benue PDP gov candidate

THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State concluded it’s primary yesterday with the state governor, Samuel Ortom, emerging the party flag bearer.

Ortom defeated the other three aspirants in a landslide to emerge the party candidate.

The primary held at Aper Aku stadium in Makurd started on Sunday but the late night rain forced the primary to hold yesterday.

The state chairman, committee of primary election, Zainab Minna announced that the governor polled 2,210, John Tondo scored 475, Felix Atume polled  44 votes and 10 votes for  Dr Paul Orhi.

Zainab Maina said that seven aspirants contested, but three aspirants; Dr Telumun Nyitse, Dave Iorhemba and Professor Tor Iorapuu withdrew from the race.

Maina said that the poll which started on Sunday was forced to end yesterday due to rainfall which disrupted the primary.

Ortom, while speaking, thanked the leaders of the party in the state as well as other party members for reposing confidence in him.

He pledged to give good leadership that would improve the well being of people of the state.

Ortom said that when he was in the ruling APC, it was difficult for him to meet the yearnings of the people of the state.

“In  APC, it was difficult for me to provide good leadership but today I have my freedom,’ governor Ortom said.
