Ortom condemns continued Tiv/Jukun crisis

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom yesterday condemned the prolong Tiv/Jukun crisis that has claimed many lives.

The Tiv/Jukun clashes started several years ago leading to several people dead.

Just last week five people were killed in Ukum local government area of the state by the rampaging Jukun militia who were said to have come from Taraba State.

Decrying the unabated clashes, between the Tiv/Jukun, Governor Ortom at the swearing in of four special advisers yesterday observed that the clash is gradually spilling over to Benue State.

While calling on the two ethnic groups to embrace peace, the governor pointed out that it was impossible for the two tribes to dislodge each other from the two states.

Inaugurating the new special advisers, Ortom charged them to redouble their efforts in assisting his administration to provide selfless service to people of the state.

The governor noted that the appointees exhibited hard work, commitment and dedication to duty in their previous assignments which had earned them reappointment.

He said that people of hard work and good character were needed to occupy strategic offices to help implement the recommendations of the Dr. Iyorchia Ayu-led Transition Committee.

The Governor charged the appointees to be prudent in the discharge of their duties and shun the temptation to get involved in things that would make them regular visitors to anti-graft agencies after their tenure.

The four special advisers who were reappointed are; Elder Jerome Torshimbe on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, retired Col. Paul Hemba on Security Matters, Dr. Mrs. Magdalene Dura on Development Cooperatives, Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, and NEPAD as well as Joseph Odaudu for Special Duties.

Responding on behalf of her colleagues, Mrs. Magdalyne Dura expressed gratitude to the Governor for finding them worthy to serve in his second tenure and promised to justify the confidence reposed in them.

She stated that as foot soldiers, they were committed to serving diligently and with total loyalty.
