Abia charity homes and schools, on Wednesday, expressed their excitement as the Umuahia Liaison Officer, Hon. Ifeanyi Umere donated materials to them to celebrate Sen. Theodore Orji who clocked 73 years today.
The charity homes include Church-owned St. Vincent The Paul Centre for the mentally and physically challenged, Umuafai In Umuahia North LGA and Agape Charity Home, Avodim in Umuahia South LGA.
Others include Ibeku High School, Umuahia in Umuahia North LGA, Umuopara Secondary School in Umuahia South, Aroayan Primary School 1 and 2, all in Ikwuano LGA among others.
Explaining his benevolence, Umere said he was celebrating his principal who was a former governor of Abia and the immediate past Senator representing Abia Central, His Excellency Sen. Theodore Ahamefule Orji who clocked 73 years today.
According to Umere, “T. A. Orji is a man to be reckoned with in terms of governance, lawmaking, charity and philanthropy, stating that his governance in Abia State left a landmark for succeeding governors to follow”.
At the National Assembly, he exhibited his mastery of why he was there and was awarded the best Senator at various times. His bill on disease control saved Nigeria during the Covid-19 era and his philanthropy has no limit, as many students found succour through his scholarship initiative, while many indigents were empowered with cash and materials.
“Donating to charity is a way of thanking God on his behalf and asking for more years to him,” Umere said.
He donated large quantities of school materials including books, notebooks, writing materials, science equipment, audio-visual equipment and more worth millions of naira to each of the schools, while bags of rice, noodles and other food condiments were given to the charity homes.
Expressing her excitement over the donations, the Mother Superior of St. Vincent The Paul Centre, Rev. Sis. Getrude Ukanwoko, who was represented by Rev. Sis. Ugonna Anyanwu cried out loud to God to bless T. A. Orji over his continued benevolence to the centre and for Umere for coming to their aide.
She disclosed that the over 20 years, the centre has been subjected to hardship, stating that Wednesday morning, the more than 50 inmates were fed with only one and half cartons of Indomie pasta “in addition to some plantains we harvested in our compound. This Indomie given to us is the only food item we have here now”.
She pleaded with government at all levels to come to their assistance, while a dumb inmate and a primary four pupil, Chimaobi Okoro thanked the donors through sign language.
Similarly, the coordinator of Agape Charity Home, Rose Okonkwo also expressed her appreciation to the entire family of Sen. Orji over his family assistance in the past.
Also expressing their excitement, the Principal, Ibeku High School Senior Secondary School, Sir Uzuegbu, Matthew Ikechukwu and his junior secondary school counterpart, Lady Ada Ocho said they are happy that the senator through his aide had remembered the school where the wife of the senator and Umere schooled on the occasion of his birthday.
In his thanksgiving, the Senior Prefect of the school, Valentine Ibe thanked the senator and his aide, Umere for their gesture.
