Opposition’s emergence: Ghana is different from Nigeria, Presidency replies PDP

The Presidency has refuted claims by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition figures suggesting that Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) might face the same political fate as Ghana’s government, which recently lost to its main opposition party.

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Public Communication to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressed significant differences between the two nations’ political and economic contexts.

Bwala stated that while comparative analysis can offer insights, applying Ghana’s political outcomes to Nigeria is misleading. “Given comparative analysis, that is not to say I am blaming the government of Ghana, but there are divergent applications of government policy,” he remarked.

He pointed to distinct economic indicators and developments over the past year in Ghana, which, he argued, cannot be equated with Nigeria’s situation.

“If you have been following events in Ghana, you will see that over the last year, and if you follow the indices, you find out that it is not the same thing happening in the two countries,” Bwala explained.

Defending President Tinubu’s administration, Bwala asserted that its economic redirection efforts have garnered confidence. “What Mr. President is doing in redirecting the economy in the right direction, Mr. President is very confident,” he said.

The Presidential aide dismissed fears that the APC could lose upcoming elections, emphasizing that Nigerians prioritize tangible improvements in governance. “The idea of the ruling party losing the election—that will not happen, because Nigerian people are seeing what the administration is doing. Nigerian people only care about what they are confronted with every day,” he noted.

Bwala further stressed that Nigerians are more focused on impactful policies than superficial attributes like a leader’s background or appearance. “They don’t actually care whether you are white or black skin or whatever; as long as what matters to them on their dinner table is dealt with, Nigerian people will always stay with you,” he said.

He concluded by highlighting the commendations President Tinubu has received across the nation, underscoring the administration’s optimism about its ongoing efforts to improve governance and citizens’ lives. “That is why Mr. President is receiving commendation from every part of the country,” Bwala added.
