Operation ‘Delta safe’ promises to end militancy in Niger Delta

Published by

THE commander, Operation Delta Safe (OPDS), Rear Admiral Apochi Suleiman, has promised to put an end to militancy in the Niger Delta region.

He said the Joint Task Force (JTF), was combat-ready to contain hostilities and restore lasting peace in the region.

The OPDS commander stated this at Ikang border post in Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross River State, shortly after embarking on ‘Exercise Safety Check’, within the Niger Delta creeks.

He said the exercise was geared towards protecting Nigeria’s critical infrastructure while nipping the menace of crime and militancy in the bud.

Suleiman, however, said troops were mentally and physically ready to carry out their duties effectively.

‘’This is a continuation of exercise safety check that started last week from Delta  State to Bayelsa State, Rivers State  to Akwa Ibom State   as well as  to Cross River State.

“So far, you can agree with me that there has been relative peace within our joint operation area.

“What we have seen so far shows that our troops are ready and prepared for any eventuality. We are sure of enforcing the mandate that has been given to us,” he said.

Earlier, the  Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral James Oluwole, while receiving commander and his entourage in his office, charged security agencies in the country to join forces in order to effectively provide security for the citizenry.
