Open defecation: Bauchi lawmaker flags off construction of 1,000 toilets

his move to ensure that Bauchi LGA attained the open defecation-free (OPF) status, the Member representing Bauchi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Aliyu Aminu Garu on Sunday, flagged off the construction of over 1,000 toilets at strategic locations across the constituency.

While speaking during the flag-off ceremony held in his constituency office, Hon. Aliyu Aminu Garu said that the provision of toilets to the people of his constituents will reduce the incidence of diseases.

He also said that when completed, people will have access to the Toilets which will then reduce the practice of open defecation among the people.

He added that the construction of the toilets is part of his plans to fight against any environmental issues that will negatively affect the good living conditions of the people of his constituency.

The State Commissioner of Housing and Environment, Rt Hon Danlami Ahmed Kawule who was the special guest of honor at the ceremony, commended the Federal Lawmaker for the gesture saying that it will go a long way in complementing what his Ministry is doing.

He stressed that it will further ensure that the state improves the cleanliness of the environment particularly in Bauchi Local Government which is hosting the capital of the state.

The Commissioner added that the toilets will drastically reduce the spread of diseases associated with indiscriminate defection with the spaces in the Bauchi Local Government.

In his remarks, Horn. Danladi Mahammad Danbaba, Deputy PDP state Chairman said, “I am happy to have a Representative who is working hard to bring people-oriented projects to his constituency, like Hon. Aliyu Aminu Garu is doing.”

He called on the other elected members of the National Assembly elected under the platform of the PDP to continue to learn from the example of Aliyu Aminu Garu by bringing to the constituents developmental projects and programmes in line with the PDP agenda and good people of their various constituencies who voted for them.

Politicians from Bauchi Local Government attended the ceremony including the Commissioner of Commerce and Industry, Hon. Mahmood Babamaji, Hon. Garba Mahammad Noma, Alh. Bala Maigoro, Alh. Inuwa Malamin Kasuwa and others.
