OOUTH resident doctors suspend strike

Members of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) of the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), sagamu, have suspended their industrial action over shortage of manpower in the hospital.

The doctors had embarked on indefinite strike just after the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, had directed for the immediate recruitment of all cadres of staff for the hospital, especially health workers. 

The doctors’ had on Monday night called off the indefinite strike after an emergency general meeting.

The Secretary of the ARD in OOUTH, Dr Oluwafemi Ajose, in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday said the association resolved to call off the strike due to instant approval for immediate recruitment of resident doctors and other health workers by the governor.

The doctors while appreciating the governor advised the hospital management on the need to fast track the recruitment process within the next four weeks.

“The Congress of the ARD, OOUTH, Sagamu, appreciates the kind gesture of His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun, for his quick response and intervention in the issues affecting the teaching hospital and other healthcare facilities in the state. To this end, we have suspended our indefinite strike in honour of the governor.

“We appreciate also, the administrative panel set up by the governor to look into the issues affecting the growth of the teaching hospital.

“We want to assure the hospital management, the state government and members of the public that we shall not relent in the discharge of our duties and our agitations for an international standard health care system and delivery in Ogun state,” the statement read thus.
