OOU debunks story on VC’s alleged EFCC invitation

OLABISI Onabanjo University, Age-Iwoye, Ogun State, says there is no truth whatsoever in the stories published on Thursday 23rd  and Sunday 26th March 2017 in some national newspapers (not Nigerian Tribune) that its vice chancellor, Professor Saburi Adejimi Adesanya, was invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over  N100 million fraud.

Its deputy registrar, Corporate Affairs Division, Mr Niyi Oduwole, in a statement on Monday said the university had not received any information from the EFCC or any security agent whatsoever on the “frivolous allegation.”

Two national newspapers had claimed that EFCC had invited the vice chancellor over a petition written by some members of the university’s alumni association.

But Mr Oduwole said the public should disregard the publications, noting particularly that the stories had no bylines, and “nobody’s name was mentioned as a member of the said alumni association, thus raising dust about the credibility of those stories.”

The statement reads in part: “The university wishes to state that it has not received any information from the EFCC or any security agent whatsoever on this frivolous allegation.

“It may also interest members of the public, and most especially the media, that a faction of the alumni, led by Mr Shorunke, had already taken the university to court on this matter. Therefore, further comments on it may be considered to be subjudice, contemptuous and prejudicial before the court of law.”

He said the university would not go into any media war by taking issue with anybody; but as an agent of government and a law-abiding institution, would give appropriate response after the case would have been disposed forthwith by the court.
