OORBDA trains 102 youths on arable farming, fish production, others

102 youths have been trained in various skills and empowered with equipment to start up their business by the management of the Ogun Oshun River Basin Development Authority (OORBDA).

The three -day training was second in the series by the Federal Government agency, as part of its contribution to address the challenge of unemployment among the youths.

Speaking at the end of the second batch training,  the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of OORBDA, Mr. Olufemi Odumosu, noted that the youth constitute the productive and working class group of every nation.

According to him, they have the energy and drive to positively contribute to the overall good and wellbeing of the society and that they require requisite exposures, capacity, building, skills, training and education that can be leveraged on for economic empowerment and financial self – reliance.

The beneficiaries were engaged in arable farming, fish smoking, soap and detergent making as well as confectioneries.

He said that officials of the Authority would embark on monitoring and evaluation visit from time to time to access how each participant fares after the programme and thereby urged them to make judicious use of items provided to start up their businesses.

Odumosu said. “ Youth empowerment programmes are aimed at creating and providing healthier and better quality of life for the youths of the society. “

“ You ( youths) have the energy and drive to positively contribute to the overall good and wellbeing of the society. This kind of empowerment is only an impetus or push by which the you are assisted and launched out to succeed in life “.

One of the beneficiaries, Kudirat Akinbola who appreciated the authority, said the programme was a dream true, saying she has been expecting such programme from the federal government.
