Ooni’s wife donates N1.4m to improve hostel facility at Ibadan Poly

The new queen of Ife, Olori Wuraola Otiti Zaynab Ogunwusi, has provided succor to the female students in the Olori Hall of residence of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State.

The Yeyeluwa of the source made a cash donation of N1.4 million to the Olori Hall of residence for the general refurbishment and beautification of the hall as well as for the erection of the typical Olori statue in front of the facility.

She made the donation last Thursday at a week long-annual ‘Olori Day’ organised by female students of the hostel, to celebrate femininity and womanhood.

Olori Wuraola was ably represented by Olori Owa Efunkemi Omidirepo, Yeye  Ewe Obatala, who was also accompanied by Olori Adenike Fatunmise.

In her address, Olori Wuraola declared her full support and acceptance for the honour to erect the typical Olori statue in front of the hall of residence, and promised to be present when the statue is ready to be unveiled.

She advised the female students to ensure that they all do well in their studies and live a good record when graduating from the institution, saying “your certificate is the only will no one can take from you.”

Speaking on the ‘Olori Day’ annual event, the hall warden, Mrs Risikat Abimbola Akinseye, who is a lecturer in the Department of Public Administration of the polytechnic, explained that the event is meant to promote the Yoruba culture, thereby bringing out the royalty in every female student.

She said the event is also meant to re-orientate the students, so that the womanliness in them can find true expression, as well as bring close to them women of substance they can emulate or fashion their lives after.

“Olori Hall is as old as the polytechnic itself. It is high time it was given a new and befitting look it deserves. That is why we have solicited for the help of Her Imperial Majesty, Olori Wuraola.

“We want to erect the typical Olori statue at the entrance of the hall, make a highway for students on wheel chair, create a parking lot, and replace the old toilets with new ones, among other things,” she said.

She promised that the money would be used judiciously for the purpose it is meant for. She also thanked the school management for its promptness in attending to every need and request from the hall, and most importantly for always picking the bill when the need arises.

Highlights of the event were, presentation of awards, comedy, dance competition, talent hunt, musical rendition from the music department of the polytechnic and Miss Olori beauty pageant, where Olamide Kazeem emerged as“Miss Olori 2016.”
