Onukaba, Ex Daily Times MD, is Dead

Dr Adinoyi Onukaba, Former Managing Director of Daily Times Nigeria Plc, lost his life on Sunday evening  along Akure-Ilesha road.

According to a source, the ugly incident occurred in Ero village near Akure, in the Ifedore local government area of Ondo state, when the deceased who was in company of one of his friend ran into some armed robberies who were operating on the road.

The source said the operation of the armed bandit on the road forced the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Kogi state who was on his way back to Abuja from Abeokuta, Ogun State, where he had joined other dignitaries to attend the inauguration of Obasanjo Presidential Library to park his car and take cover inside the bush.

He explained that the operation of the robbers caused a heavy logjam on the ever busy Akure-Owo road while most motorists also parked their vehicles to avoid being robbed or attacked by the hoodlums.

It was however gathered that one of the drivers heading towards Ilesha road maneuvered his way to escape the attack of the armed robbers lost control of the vehicle and rammed on Onukaba who was hiding in the bush.

Onukaba was said to have gave up immediately while his remains were deposited at the State General Hospital at Akure.

However a resident of the area lamented the activities of armed robbers in the area saying several people have been killed during various attack by the armed robbery.

He said “armed robbers have turned this area to their permanent point of attack. A top official of a commercial bank in Akure was killed in this road some few days ago after being shot by these armed robbers.

“We call on the state government and the security agents to deploy security operatives to this area to protect the lives of motorists on this highway”

Confirming the development, the State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) Femi Joseph, said the late veteran journalist turned politician met his untimely death while he was knocked down by an oncoming vehicle who was trying to escape the armed robbery attack.

He described the death of Onukaba as unfortunate but said the state police command has commenced investigation into the killing of former Managing Director of Daily Times with a pledge to arrest the armed bandit.
