The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) will, on Monday, hold an emergency meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC) on the purported suspension of Justice Walter Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) by President Muhammad Buhari.
The general secretary of the NBA, Jonathan Gunu Taidi, said in a notice of meeting sighted by Sunday Tribune that the meeting has Onnoghen’s suspension as the only agenda of the meeting, which is to be attended only by statutory NEC members.
“Mobilisation to the Nigeria Bar Association headquarters for a meeting on Monday, 28 January, 2019, to demand the shutdown of the courts and pulling out of lawyers until the ongoing judicial coup is quashed,” the notice read in part.
Sunday Tribune also gathered that there will be a rally against the ongoing assault on the nation’s judiciary on Monday morning at the NBA headquarters in Abuja.
