Only prayers can solve Nigeria’s problems —WCC members

Nigerians have been told to pray ceaselessly in order to put a stop to all the problems confronting the country.

This was the submission of a three-man delegation from the World Council of Churches (WCC), during a visit to the Celica Church of Christ Worldwide at the headquarters of the church at Kilometre 7, New Ife road, Ibadan, Oyo State, recently.

The World Council of Churches is a fellowship of churches which confess the Lord Jesus Christ as God and Savior according to the scriptures, and therefore seek to fulfill together their common calling to the glory of the one God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

It is a community of churches on the way to visible unity in one faith and one eucharistic fellowship, expressed in worship and in common life in Christ. It seeks to advance towards this unity, as Jesus prayed for his followers, “so that the world may believe”. (John 17:21).

The delegation consisting of two men and a woman, was at the church to learn first-hand about life in the  church as well as to share information about the WCC and to address specific questions as may apply, from the side of the WCC and the  church.

The delegation led by Reverend (Dr) Simon Benjamin,  Programme Executive for Church Relations, World Council of Churches, Geneva included Professor  Khalil Jack Gerges, WCC Central Committee member from Lebanon and Mbingasani Maluavanga Marcelline, WCC Central Committee member from Democrat Republic of Congo.

At a press conference to appraise their visit, the delegation in unison declared that they were impressed with what they saw on ground and, therefore, advised the leadership of Celica church to keep up the good work of God it is undertaking in the house of God.

Benjamin stressed that it is only prayers that could help in ending the Boko Haram insurgency, banditry and kidnappings that have turned Nigeria into a killing field.

Also, Prophet & Founder of Celica Church of Christ Worldwide, Reverend (Dr.) Emmanuel Adeonigbagbe, expressed his delight and appreciation of the church to the visitors, just as he encouraged them to start thinking of revisiting them at their convenient time.

Adeonigbagbe also agreed with the visiting WCC members that only prayers can solve all human problems including the setbacks confronting Nigeria. He urged them to continue to put Nigeria in their prayers at their different bases so that it can further help the country to overcome its internal strives.
