The Onikoyi of Ikoyi-Ekiti , Oba Moses Ogundana Akinwande, has installed  a  staff member of  the Nigerian  Tribune,  Chief Gbenga Olumide,  as the Olore of Ikoyi-Ekiti.

The  installation ceremony of one of the newspaper’s line editors  was conducted at the weekend in Ikoyi-Ekiti, Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State by the traditional ruler.

The traditional ruler described the veteran journalist is one of the prominent sons of the community who has distinguished himself in his chosen career.

He noted that the community and its residents have benefitted in no small measure through his profession by providing platform for the promotion of the throne and other agitations.

According to the  traditional ruler, the conferment of the chieftaincy title was in recognition of Olumide’s selfless service to the development of humanity and the community.

“Chief  Olumide, who is entitled as Olore of Ikoyi-Ekiti, is a bonafide member of the community. He has been paying his due to the community of Ikoyi-Ekiti and he is  proud of the town wherever he goes

“He has been helping the community in all ramifications, and has been standing behind its development, hence, the reason for his conferment,’’ the traditional ruler said.

He called on the federal and state governments to establish higher  institution  in the area, towards improving the level of literacy in the community.

He noted that since his enthronement as traditional ruler in January, the community has witnessed development across health, social and education sectors including empowerment for the aged.

He commended the state governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji,  for his efforts at fulfilling his six-pillar programmes for the people, adding that the two new basic health facilities and the recent appointment of an indigene as a permanent secretary, is a testament that Ikoyi-Ekiti has become a beneficiary of the shared prosperity agenda of the governor.

Speaking, the new Olore of Ikoyi-Ekiti commended the traditional ruler for the confidence reposed in him on the conferment of the chieftaincy title, saying that he will continue to hold the community in high esteem.

Olumide stated that the title has put on him more responsibility to Ikoyi-Ekiti and its residents, promising that he would use his new office to promote peace and unity in the community.

While soliciting support from the people to the Onikoyi towards the development of the  community, he added that he would continue to be good ambassador of the town and contribute more towards the socioeconomic growth of the community.

Also, the traditional ruler  installed Chief Aladesanmi Ajayi,  as the Elejoka of Ikoyi-Ekiti, for his giant strides in and outside the state.
