Violence broke out in the Labiran area of Ibadan, Oyo State, in the early hours of Friday when some hoodlums attacked the area, destroying a house, a car and carting away valuables.

This is contrary to a report in an online medium which said over 200 houses and a number of cars were razed during the attack.

Speaking with Tribune Online, one of the eyewitnesses who resides in the area said the hoodlums came around midnight  and during the attack, they destroyed a house by burning part of it and a Micra taxi cab. They also went away with valuables belonging to some residents.

The eyewitness said:  “All our efforts to put a call through the Operation Amotekun to rescue us proved abortive as they arrived here a little after 3:00 a.m.

“Over 30 shops including a barbing salon, drinking joint were raided and they carried away freezers, stabilizers, among others.

“According to what we gathered, they are suspected to have come from Ita Baale and we want the government to come to our rescue as we are living in fear. We don’t know where to go now, we believe they can still come back but we want the intervention of the state government.”

Another resident who is a barber said the hoodlums broke the door of his shop, making away with all his clippers, the mirrors and other appliances in the shop.

“My clippers are gone now including the mirrors. I don’t know where to start from, the government needs to do something on our security as we are living in fear,” he said.
