One arrested over Ibadan murder

One suspect has been arrested in connection with last Friday’s murder of 29-year-old Azeezat Shomuyiwa in Ijefun, Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

Azeezat, a seven months old pregnant woman, was found dead in her home after unknown assailants smashed her head with a stone.

Oyo Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Gbenga Fadeyi, confirmed the arrest of the suspect when Nigerian Tribune, on Thursday, asked for an update on the twin killings of Shomuyiwa and Barakat Bello.

Fadeyi said the suspect in police custody was assisting in investigation into Azeezat’s killing.

Asked about Barakat’s killing, he said an investigation into the incident was ongoing.

19-year-old Barakat had been raped and killed by yet-to-be-identified persons in her home last Monday.

“A suspect is still in our cell assisting the police in our investigation.

“We are working to make sure that those others in connection with the incident are arrested and prosecuted accordingly.

“The Criminal Investigation Department is still on the case. The suspect is for Azeezat’s case. Efforts are on regarding the other case,” Fadeyi said.
