#OndoDecides2024: Heavy military presence in Ondo North

A heavy presence of military personnel mounting roadblocks was sighted in Akure as early as 6:00 am on Saturday, ahead of the ongoing Ondo governorship election in the state.

The heavy presence of the military has been creating an atmosphere of fear in some areas in Ondo North senatorial districts as the military restricted movement.

Tribune Online correspondent noted that military personnel at every roadblock are preventing the movement of people, including accredited journalists and INEC officials, among other stakeholders.

In Owo, at the military outpost, the military personnel on duty were seen sitting under the shed and ordering people to remove the barricade after being cleared under the shed.

The story is not different in the Akoko area, where journalists and other officials participating in the election were delayed for several minutes.

No fewer than 18 military checkpoints were mounted between Owo and Ikare Akoko, with the military personnel, turning people back while some people who were given access usually undergo a thorough search.

Some of the residents who spoke with Tribune Online said the election was heavily militarized and prevented people from coming out to exercise their civic right
However, no arrest has been made.
