The Alumni Association of the Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko (AAUA) Ekiti state branch has elected and inaugurated a new set of executives that will pilot the affairs of the association in the state.
At the well-attended inauguration in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, the new executives are; Segun Adebayo (chairman), Temitope Adigun (secretary), Temitope Olohuniyo (Treasurer), and Adeyemi Olajutemu (PRO).
Speaking, the global president of AAUA alumni, Dr Olumide Olugbemi-Gabriel, congratulated the new executives on their emergence following the directives from the national headquarters on the need for the branches to conduct elections towards meeting their mandates to members and the institution.
Represented by the national publicity secretary of the association, O’Seun Ogunsakin, the president expressed optimism about the capacity of the new executives under the leadership of Segun Adebayo to deliver and make the association active and vibrant in the state.
He said, “Dear friends, let me use this medium to remind you that the goal of my administration is to reposition this Association and make it the envy of all. This will be impossible if we do not develop our branches. I am aware that very few alumni have been attending either the physical or the virtual meetings called by this branch.
“This is not good enough. Alumni Association is not a show of affluence, as some people believe that it is meant for well-to-do people. This is not true because the Association is meant for us to help one another.
“From records, Mr Segun Adebayo had always made useful contributions at our National Council meetings and was a member of the now-rested Constitution Review Committee.
I, therefore, hope that with his emergence, the Ekiti branch will have more vibrant representation at the Council, though he has been there earlier in a different capacity.
“We cannot afford to allow this branch to become inactive. To this end, I want to urge all alumni, especially the outgoing executives, to support the new leadership so that it can successfully steer the ship of this branch to a safe harbour.”
In his acceptance speech, the new chairman, Adebayo, commended members of the association for the confidence reposed in him to lead the association, adding that with their support, his tenure would witness tremendous achievement in the branch.
According to him, “ Our vision for our Association is simple yet ambitious. It is our belief that we have the potential to foster a vibrant and dynamic network that not only connects alumni but also serves as a catalyst for personal and professional growth.
“Together, we can create a platform that nurtures collaboration, mentorship, and lifelong learning. Let us harness the power of our collective knowledge, experiences, and resources to empower our fellow alumni and contribute to the greater good of our community.
“To achieve this vision, we will propose a three-pronged approach. Firstly, we will focus on strengthening the ties between our alumni and our beloved alma mater via our National Body by establishing robust channels of communication and collaboration, we can facilitate meaningful engagement, support ongoing initiatives, and provide opportunities for alumni involvement in the growth and development of our institution.
“Secondly, we will prioritise the creation of a comprehensive alumni network that spans across industries, geographies, and generations.
By leveraging technology and organising regular events, productive workshops, and seminars, we can foster connections that transcend boundaries, facilitating mentorship, professional development, and lifelong friendships. Let us embrace the power of our network to open doors of opportunity for our fellow alumni and inspire the next generation of leaders.
“Our alumni have been blessed with the privilege of education, and it is our duty to pay it forward. By organising philanthropic endeavours, volunteering our time and expertise, and supporting deserving causes, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
“Together, we can be a force for positive change and leave a lasting legacy that extends far beyond our Association.”
