Ondo State government, in collaboration with a private organisation, Oshodi Art Gallery, has announced plans for the celebration of the first ever festival of arts, music, drama and cultural celebration in the state, tagged 2018 ARTFEST.
The maiden edition of the 2018 ARTFEST which will feature exhibition of feature an exhibition of Nigerian food, fashion, Arts and Craft, local beverage from various parts of the country, traditional dance and live music amongst others.
Speaking on the 2018 Ondo ARTFEST, the state governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, called for the promotion of indigenous arts and fashion products in order to enhance domestic economic development.
The governor said that the event would allow Nigerians to appraise products coming from talents of local exhibitors and creative individuals within and outside the state.

He explained that the programme would encompass various segments of art, culture and tourism and urged the involvement of women in its various segments.
“Quite a number of our local attires can be showcased with our arts which will attract buyers if they are of quality. Let us promote what is African, what is ours,” he said.
Governor Akeredolu expressed optimism that the programme was well packaged. The Governor said a date should be set aside as “Cultural Day” to create awareness.
Also Speaking during the media launch of Ondo 2018 ARTFEST, the state Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Alhaji Ismaila Ayodeji Olurimisi, commended the state governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, for approving the maiden edition of the Festival.
Olurimisi said the event would provide awareness opportunity for citizens to see artwork and culture of the state and said the festival was aimed at generating a financial forecast of over N100 million to enhance the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state.
Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of Oshodi Art Gallery, Mr Oshodi Seyi Paul, explained that the one-week 2018 ONDOFEST programme is proudly festival of arts, music, drama and cultural celebration in the state, saying “our heritage and diversity, with active cultural troops’ participation from the 18 local government areas of the state, will be on display.’’
He said the Festival will feature: Agro Tourism, Mountain Racing, Food and Drinks Festival, Open Air Film Show, Fashion Show, Book and Literature, Choreography, Award Night, Face Painting, Tourist Site Seeing and Afro -Modern Fashion Carnival.”
Others according to him are Afro-modern fashion show carnival, book and literature as well as ethno tourism summit.
He noted that the event, the maiden edition would put together array of activities and will attract more than 4,000 people.
“The annual ethno tourism carnival parade will also include trado-carnival floats from all the 18 local government areas of the state and all the arts, tourism and culture ministries in all the 36 states,’’ he said.
