Following the dearth of Pharmacy Technicians in Ondo State, the state‘s School of Health Technology has re-introduced the training of Pharmacy Technician after 21 years.
The Director, Pharmaceutical Services, Ondo State Ministry of Health, Mr Gbenga Lasekan, who disclosed this stated that the introduction of the programme became imperative as most of the Pharmacy Technicians seeking employment in the state’s health facilities are from other states.
According to him, the moves was put in place to forestall capital flight and brain drain, and stressed the need for the state to train indigenous technicians in the area while he charged pharmacists to hold the profession in high esteem with a pledge that the state will not let the Council down.
The provost of the school, Dr Felix Olawoye who took the team on inspection of facilities in the school noted the successes recorded by the institution recently, saying the institution has carved a niche for itself by the brilliant performance of its students in external examinations.
Olawoye, who said students of the institution can compete favourably with their counterpart across the globe, stated that the management is focused in its dream of making the institution a force to be reckoned with while promising not to rest on his oars.
Giving a report on their findings, the HOD Education and Training, Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria, Dr Anthony Idoko commended the institution for putting those facilities in place and doing the needful before contemplating admission .
Idoko implored the institution not to loose focus of the purpose of starting the course which is for the benefit of the society, the profession and the student themselves, adding that there must be harmony between Pharmacists and the Pharmacist Technicians.
