Ondo PDP ticket: Why I am the candidate to beat —Jegede

Former Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of Ondo State, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, has said given his political and administrative experience, he is the best candidate to fly the flag of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in this year’s Ondo governorship election.

Jegede, who was also the PDP standard-bearer in the 2016 Ondo State governorship election, had earlier in the week collected the nomination form of the party ahead of the July 22 governorship primary.

In a statement at the weekend by a former Ondo State Commissioner for Environment, Chief Lebi Adepiti, Jegede said his professional competence and the diligent manner he discharged his duties as a public office holder could be attested to by those who came in contact with him.

He noted that this period in the political life of Ondo State and the nation as a whole is not one to embark on needless gamble but to put a round peg in a round hole.

“I have always been a consistent, committed and dedicated party man. I do not jump from one party to the other. Even when we were unnecessarily buffeted, hounded and persecuted by enemies within, prior to the 2016 governorship poll, I did not waiver or lose hope.

“I held on tenaciously and spearheaded the rejuvenation of PDP in Ondo State.

“My achievements and performance in office as the Justice Commissioner are there for all to see. My relationship and interactions with party leaders and members, even beyond Ondo State boundaries have always been cordial.

“I believe and subscribe to the ideals of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, and I promise that, if given the ticket and eventually elected as governor by God’s grace come October, I will run an inclusive administration that will further endear the PDP to the people of the state,” he said.

Jegede added that his wide acceptance by the generality of Ondo State people was evident in the high number of votes he got then in the last governorship election in 2016.

“We were not allowed to campaign and we were needlessly distracted until about two days to the election but we were not disgraced. One can imagine what our performance would be now that those distractions are not there. Moreover, those at the helm have not really lived up to expectations. The people of the state are waiting for someone to come and liberate them, and I have thrown my hat into the ring to do so,” he said.

Jegede highlighted the need for a person who can positively turn around the economy of the state.

“Apart from coming from a family of great businessmen and women who also excelled in public service, I have also done well in managing human and material resources at various levels. My plan for the economic revival of the state will be made public soon. We are on top of the game. I appeal to our party leaders and members to put a round peg in a round hole and honour me with the party’s ticket,” he stated.
