The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced plans to stage a protest today, Thursday, 27th March 2025, against what it described as neglect by the Ondo State government.
In a statement signed by NANS Ondo JCC Chairman, Oluwarotimi Tobiloba Joshua, the association stated that the protest became necessary due to the government’s failure to address the attack on NANS members at Ogbese, the absence of student-friendly policies, the deteriorating state of educational institutions, and the government’s refusal to fulfill its commitments to student welfare.
NANS lamented that despite continuous engagement, peaceful dialogue, and official correspondences with the Ondo State government, their demands had been ignored.
The association is calling for immediate action on several issues, including the implementation of student-centered policies, renovation and equipping of institutional facilities, construction and rehabilitation of hostels, and enhanced security for students, particularly those on SIWES.
Other demands include the fulfillment of the government’s commitment to procuring student buses, support for student entrepreneurship and skill acquisition programmes, justice for the attack on NANS members at Ogbese, and the inclusion of student representatives in education policy-making.
Addressing fellow students, the statement read, “It is with a deep sense of responsibility that we, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) JCC Ondo Axis, rise in defense of our rights and future. The persistent neglect and abandonment of students in Ondo State by the government have left us with no choice but to take decisive action.

“Despite our continued engagement, peaceful dialogue, and official correspondences with the Ondo State Government, our demands for better student welfare, security, and infrastructural development have been ignored.
“The failure to address the attack on NANS members at Ogbese, the lack of student-friendly policies, the deteriorating state of our institutions, and the government’s refusal to fulfill its commitment to student welfare have pushed us to this moment of action.”
