Ondo: How court witness slums, dies in court

An unidentified man in his seventies collapsed and died inside an Ondo State High Court session in Oka, Ondo, before the proceedings began.

Witnesses stated that the deceased was there to testify as a witness in a case involving his friend.

According to a court staff member who spoke on condition of anonymity, the man collapsed suddenly without any apparent interaction or collision with anyone or anything.

“The man was in court with his friend and suddenly stood up, then fell down, hitting his head on the tiles, and he passed away,” the court staff member said.

“He didn’t look like someone who was sick, and he did not collide with anything or anybody that we may say is the cause of his death.”

Another witness, Tunde Ariyo, mentioned that policemen from the Enu-Owa police division were called to take the deceased to the mortuary.

Enu-Owa Police Division confirmed the incident, stating that the case has been transferred to the homicide section of the police headquarters in Akure.
