Ondo guber aspirant, Kekemeke calls for direct primaries

Ondo State guber aspirant, Isaac Kekemeke has called on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to use direct primaries in Ondo State as it seeks to get a suitable and popular candidate to fly the party’s flag.

Kekemeke who was at the party secretariat to pick his expression of interest and nomination form said direct primaries is the way to go in Ondo State.

The pioneer Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State who has served the state multiple times as commissioner said his aspiration to govern the state was to create an enabling environment where the people can live comfortably and earn a decent living.

He said his ambition if realised will change the governance narrative of Ondo State as his government will work beyond serving his family and friends but the entire state in whose trust and judgement he would be made governor.

“Let me however humbly appeal to our national leadership to adopt the Direct mode of election in the forthcoming All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries in Ondo State scheduled for July 20, 2020.

“Its advantages are numerous, and they far outweigh its challenges.

He said adopting the direct primaries would help the party to “resolve the lingering division and litigations in respect of the 2018 ward, Local and State Congresses in the state vis a vis the primary election.

According to Kekemeke, direct primaries is inclusive in that, it has the capacity to sensitise and mobilise all Party members for the eventual inter-party (General) Election scheduled for October 10, 2020. It deepens true democratic ethos.

“It provides a level playing ground for all aspirants and thus promotes fairness, equity and justice.

“It reduces the influence of money in the process and helps to eliminate “Kidnap” of delegates and cash for vote syndromes.

“It gives party members a general sense of duty /obligation to deliver the candidate in whose process of emergence they participated.

“It portrays our National leadership as unbiased, consistent and predictable.

If it was adopted in Lagos, Osun, Ogun and recently Edo, why not Ondo? He argued.
