The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladipo, on Tuesday, warned Corps members against undermining the integrity of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Scheme during the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.
Oladipo who gave this warning while addressing 2024 Batch ‘B’ (Stream 1) corps members at the Multipurpose Hall of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikare-Akoko.
He stressed the need for Corps members to be patriotic and respect all constituted authorities as they serve their fatherland diligently.
He urged corps members participating in the forthcoming elections in the state to remain apolitical and neutral in their dealings, warning them against being used for dirty deals by politicians.
He said corps members would be active players during the election and should play the game according to the rules and guidelines from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
The Police boss who said he also participated in the mandatory national service in Imo State as a corps member, declared that the National Youth Service Corps is established primarily for integration and to unite the country in its diversity.
He however, disclosed that in spite of security challenges worldwide, the police will always be there to protect the corps members, assuring that members of the service corps are in a safe environment in the Sunshine State.

He disclosed that the Police, in collaboration with other security and intelligence agencies in the state are working round the clock to ensure that the peaceful atmosphere in the state is sustained for the security benefit of all and sundry, assuring corps members of their safety and security in all the 18 Local Governments of the state.
He announced that his office has tasked the Divisional Police Officers (DPO) and Area Commanders to intensify monitoring of Corps Lodges and residential buildings occupied by Corps members within their jurisdiction, and encouraging the Corps participants not to misuse the privilege the Constitution has placed on them.
He charged them to notify their colleagues of their movements and alert the security personnel of any security challenge or breach which may put them in harm’s way, saying that the citizens have no other country to call their own than Nigeria.
The State Coordinator, Mr. Sam Amaramiro Pepple while welcoming the Police boss said that the visit was an assurance to the corps members that they are safe in the Sunshine State.
The State Coordinator assured the Police boss that Corps members will live beyond expectation during the forthcoming gubernatorial election and will be good ambassadors of the scheme.
