Ondo council elections: Group to tour wards, educate voters about electoral participation

A group called the Ondo State Conscience Movement has announced its initiative to tour the 203 wards in Ondo State in a bid to educate voters on the importance of electoral participation.

The effort is also aimed at sensitising the citizens, galvanising popular participation, and carrying out extensive voter education ahead of the upcoming local elections in our great state.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Chairman of the Ondo State Conscience Movement, Shalom Olaseni.

“As we stand at the precipice of yet another crucial electoral season, we recognise the urgency and importance of engaging with our fellow citizens across the length and breadth of Ondo State.

Our goal is to empower every Ondo resident with the knowledge and tools necessary to make informed decisions when casting their votes.”

“We believe that an informed citizenry is the cornerstone of a thriving democracy.

By visiting all 203 Wards, we aim to sensitise our people about the significance of their participation in the electoral process.

We will share insights into the power of their vote and the role they play in shaping the future of our state”, the statement said.

The group said they are committed to promoting active civic engagement, and through the tour, they aim to inspire and encourage increased participation in the electoral process, from voter registration to election day turnout.

“We recognise that an educated voter is a powerful voter. Our tour will include comprehensive voter education programmes, seminars, and workshops that will equip our citizens with the knowledge to critically evaluate candidates and make informed choices.

We will emphasise the nature of demands, standards, and expectations that can serve as reliable indices for choosing a candidate,” the group said.

During the ward tour, the group said they would employ a grassroots approach, engaging with local communities, leaders, and stakeholders in each of the 203 Wards.

Speaking on the approach to be adopted, the group said they will embark on town hall meetings and open forums for interactive discussions and the distribution of informational materials, pamphlets, and booklets on voter rights and responsibilities.

They said there will be collaborations with local educational institutions to promote youth involvement in the electoral process, mobile voter registration centres to facilitate the registration of eligible voters, and voter education workshops and seminars on the criteria for selecting a candidate based on demands, standards, and expectations.

“Our mission is to empower citizens with knowledge, not to endorse or promote any particular political party or candidate.

We will provide information that enables individuals to make choices aligned with their values and aspirations”, the group added.
