Ondo Assembly crisis: Akeredolu insists on reconciliation

Published by

FOLLOWING the crisis that engulfed the Ondo State House of Assembly for over six weeks, the state governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, has insisted that reconciliation remained the only solution to the impasse in the state House of Assembly.

The governor who declined to work with any of the factions of the lawmakers called for reconciliation in order to move the state forward saying development thrives in a peaceful environment.

Tribune Online gathered that a faction led by Hon Malachi Coker, conducted an election where a new speaker was elected by the 13 aggrieved lawmakers.

The group elected the lawmaker representing Ifedore state constituency, Hon David Oleyelogun, as its new Speaker while Hon Ogundeji Iroju from Odigbo Constituency was adopted Deputy Speaker.

It was gathered that the faction approached the state governor to introduce the new leadership of the House which the governor declined saying he cannot work with divided house and insisted on a true reconciliation between the two factions.

The other group led by Speaker Jumoke Akindele, had maintained its stand to step down as the Speaker of the House after an official change of leadership is effected in the state.

However, the Chairman of the Committee on Information, Hon Siji Akindiose, disclosed that a meeting has been scheduled to hold today (Thursday) by the two factions to iron out their differences in the interest of the state.

Meanwhile, the House of Assembly Complex has been reopened for workers by the State Police Command while the lawmakers have been barred to hold any proceedings in the Assembly complex.
