Ondo APC primaries: Abraham may seek court redress, promises not to dump party

The closest rival to the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the party’s primaries in Ondo State, Chief Olusegun Abraham, on Sunday, said he might head towards court to seek redress over the result of the primaries.

Abraham, who assured his supporters that the current situation will not drive him out of the party, said he will continue to explore all  available options within the party to reclaim his mandate before instituting legal action to correct an  alleged undemocratic process within the party,

Abraham, who stated this during a press conference in Akure, the state capital, said he had just explored only one of the three options available, saying the party has submitted a surrogate candidate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC.

He said there was need to redeem the reputation of the APC in the state, saying “the day the result was announced, the party’s reputation went into comatose.”

Three of the aspirants, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2012 governorship election, Chief Olusola Oke, Dr Olusegun Abraham and a lawmaker representing Ondo North at the Senate, Professor Ajayi Boroffice, had petitioned the party over the result of the primaries.

The trio, during a press conference at the weekend, frowned over the undemocratic behaviour of the leadership of the party over its decision to pick Akeredolu as the party’s candidate and specifically pointed an accusing finger to the National Chairman of the party, John Oyegun, for overruling the decision of the National Working Committee

According to Abraham, “Three of us are very key to the success of the party in Ondo State and we are challenging the fraud in the process and our grievances is not personal or selfish but to put things right.

“The mandate belongs to us and we shall get the mandate in spite of the name of Akeredolu being submitted to INEC. We still have till October 19 to replace or substitute the surrogate name submitted.

“The party in the state went to comatose the day the party submitted his name and the only way out of this is to thread the path of justice.”
