Ondo Afenifere congratulates Aiyedatiwa over election victory

The Ondo State chapter of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has congratulated Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa over his victory in Saturday’s governorship election, expressing hope that the mandate handed to him last Saturday would translate to better and more prosperous living conditions for people of the state.

Aiyedatiwa was declared the winner of last Saturday’s poll exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), having scored the majority of the votes cast statewide during the election.

State Chairman of the socio-political group, Chief Korede Duyile, felicitated Governor Ayiedatiwa in a statement signed by the publicity secretary, Comrade Eric Oluwole, a copy of which was made available to newsmen on Monday, expressing happiness over the peace that reigned statewide before, during, and after the election.

Duyile extended the good wishes and prayers of the Afenifere National Leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, to Governor Ayiedatiwa over his victory, saying that the elder statesman was full of hope “that your tenure, which was renewed by the mandate of Saturday, will translate to better and more prosperous living conditions for the people of Ondo State.”

“The Ondo State Chapter of Afenifere hereby congratulates the Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, over his victory in the Governorship Election that was held on Saturday.

“We bring the Governor the felicitation, good wishes, and prayers of the Afenifere National Leader, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, OFR, over this victory.

“We hereby convey to His Excellency the prayer of our national leader, Pa Fasoranti. Our leader is hopeful that your tenure, which was renewed by the mandate of Saturday, will translate to better and more prosperous living conditions for the people of Ondo State,” he said.

Speaking further, the Afenifere chieftain described as commendable the peaceful atmosphere “that reigned before and during the election, that is still reigning, and that will hopefully continue to reign in Ondo State after the election,” saying that this was “in line with the ideals and principles that Afenifere stands for that an election is not a do-or-die matter and should not be a time for brothers and sisters to unleash violence on one another.”

Afenifere expressed a strong belief that the election of Governor Aiyedatiwa would reawaken the people’s creative abilities and bring real joy to people in Ondo State in line with the group’s crusade for good governance in the country.

It further expressed the belief that the mandate handed over to Governor Ayiedatiwa would be a continuation of his strings of achievements and indeed a remarkable improvement over his good record in the last ten months he had served in office.

“As a foremost national group that over the years has been at the forefront of the crusade for good governance in our country, we hope fervently that the election of Governor Aiyedatiwa will reawaken the people’s creative abilities and bring real joy to our people in Ondo State.

“In view of Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commendable performance in office in the last ten months, we hope that this mandate will be a continuation of his strings of achievements and indeed a remarkable improvement over his good record.

“We must note that the welfare programs being executed by the Aiyedatiwa administration and the ones enunciated in his manifesto align with the Afenifere purpose of governance.

“We, therefore, advise His Excellency to unswervingly keep his promises to the electorate, be focused on his programs, and be dedicated to serving the people of Ondo State genuinely to the best of his ability with his whole being, as our illustrious Papa Obafemi Awolowo, Papa Adekunle Ajasin, and Papa Adebayo Adefarati exemplified during their times,” the statement stated.

“Also we commend the INEC for a job well done, the security agencies for ensuring peace during the election, the voters, and all the stakeholders, including the entire people of Ondo State who cooperated in ensuring the peace that reigned before and during the election, and that will hopefully continue to reign in our dear Sunshine State to enable progress and development,” it added.
