Ondo 2024: Oke charges APC leaders, stakeholders on fair play

The leading contender in the upcoming gubernatorial election in Ondo State has urged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure a level playing field for all aspirants vying for the party’s ticket.

Oke made this plea during his visit to the APC Secretariat in the state on Monday. He appealed to APC stakeholders not to compromise the electoral process to prevent unnecessary crises.

Expressing optimism about winning the primary if it is conducted freely and transparently, Oke emphasized the importance of a fair selection process instead of employing undemocratic methods to choose the party’s flagbearer.

“I have come here to request a free, fair, and transparent primary. Once this is ensured, we can all compete, and I am confident of emerging victorious. However, regardless of the outcome, I will remain a loyal party member,” Oke stated.

Declaring his intention to govern the state after Governors Olusegun Mimiko and the late Rotimi Akeredolu, Oke asserted his understanding of the state’s needs and promised swift action if elected.

“I have been a lawmaker, a party administrator, and held executive positions in my 35-year political career. With this experience, I can effectively manage party members, lawmakers, and initiate immediate action as governor,” he explained.

Discussing the purpose of his visit, Oke informed the party secretariat about his candidacy for the governorship seat on the APC platform. He highlighted the critical period of transition in Ondo State, emphasizing the need for focused development in various sectors, such as roads, hospitals, and education.

Oke also addressed the economic decline in the state, emphasizing the importance of reviving industries and creating employment opportunities. He concluded by emphasizing his familiarity with the state and his commitment to being part of the solution to its challenges.

“I have been through the struggles and denials in Ondo State. Having contested for this position three times, I believe the fourth time is my turn. As the ticket shifts to the south, I can confidently say it is my turn,” Oke declared.
