Ondo 2024: Ohunyeye visits Owo, promises to tackle unemployment, poverty

In continuation of his state-wide tour, a leading aspirant in the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2024 governorship election in Ondo State, Dr Olamide Ohunyeye, has promised to address the rising economic challenges of unemployment and poverty in the state.

Ohunyeye, who spoke during his visit to the Owo local government area, where he addressed APC leaders and other stakeholders in the council areas, paid tribute to the late governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, for his efforts and commitment to the development of the state.

The retired military general explained that the state has the potential to compete with other oil-producing states in the country but lamented the inadequate deployment of the state’s resources for the right projects and policies.

The aspirant assured the stakeholders that when given the party ticket and won the election, he would bring his wealth of experience towards the growth and development of the state.

Ohunyeye said, “ We saw the good works Governor Rotimi Akeredolu did across the state, but we have not utilised our talents and resources in the state. God help us; we will revive them for the benefit of our economy. We will bring industries here for our youth to get jobs, as well as banish poverty from our land.

“ We are known for our leading role in education, but in the last few years, we have been lagging, which is not good enough. Our classrooms and other areas will be rejigged.

“ In the area of health, it is the only Owo Federal Medical Centre we have in the whole state; that is not good enough.

“We always hear unpleasant things when our people are referred to other federal tertiary health institutions in Osun or Oyo State. We will look into this area for citizens to have access to quality healthcare.

“It is not about me but about our children and generations yet unborn. Let us look at those states with Ondo State in terms of oil revenue. These states, like Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and others, are far ahead of Ondo at the moment.

“ We need to move forward from where Akeredolu has taken us. We need development; the deep-sea port is a priority. Refineries can be brought to Ondo State. All these things are achievable if we have the opportunity.

“I want to plead with my people in Owo that the time has come for us to harness our resources to develop our dear state.”

“If this is done, there will be a new lease of life. The economy will perform better with employment opportunities and a better future.”
