Vice President Yemi Osinbajo
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has described a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Dr Olu Onagoruwa, as an advocate of the rule of law.
Osinbajo stated this on Friday at a commendation service held in honour of the late minister at his residence in Odogbolu, Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State, on Friday.
Osinbajo noted that the lifetime of the legal icon as an advocate of the rule of law and constitutionalism reflected a combination of profound scholarship, courage in the face of tyranny and grace in conduct and manner, even in the face of trials.
He noted that Onagoruwa served the oppressed and gave voice to the voiceless fearlessly and selflessly.
“He was a tireless proponent of the freedom of the press and a champion of the fundamental human rights in the country. He served the oppressed and gave voice to the voiceless, fearlessly and selflessly”, the vice president said.
He also described the deceased as devout Christian, a nationalist and activist, noting that his legacies of integrity, commitment to the rule of law, service to the people and the nation at large would not be forgotten.
He said the late legal icon would be remembered for his belief in truth and justice.
The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Malam Abubakar Malami, represented by a director in the ministry, Dayo Apata, said the ministry where the deceased served the nation in the 90’s would miss the “voice of the underprivileged”.
