Governor Seyi Makinde
Recently, the governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde inaugurated the State Advisory Council as part of efforts to enhance good governance in the state. The council consists of people of proven integrity with track records in public and private sectors.
The council, chaired by an administrator of repute, Senator Hosea Agboola, who was also a former commissioner and Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate has members like a former chairperson, Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu; former Majority Leader, House of Representatives, Mulikat Adeola-Akande; a legal luminary, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN); former Head of Service in the state, Prince Samson Laoye; a chieftain of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Jacob Adetoro; former member of House of Representatives, Kamil Akinlabi and Prof Kolapo Hamzat.

The development no doubt, is a right step in the right direction as the council will from time to time advise the government on policy implementation and developmental programmes in the state. It will therefore pave way for an inclusive government and enable government to tap from the wealth of experiences of elders and opinion molders in the state.
To this end, while feeding the government, the council should prioritize people centred policies and programmes that would bring independent perspective to economic and business issues in the state. It is essential that the council also feel the pulse of the people before advising the government as projects become developmental only when they address the needs of the people.
Let the new council also come up with modalities on how to curb the challenges confronting the state, most especially in key sectors like education, health, security and economy, among others.
How to achieve sustainable and qualitative infrastructure should be put on the table while appropriate recommendations should be given to government on how to woo investors into the state.
There is no iota of doubt that if the wealth of experiences of these personalities is tapped, the state will gain a lot and such will provide a template for the new government to achieve its mission of transforming the state.
