ON March 30, the Nigerian Tribune reported that 269 people already had meningitis in 15 states.

Meningitis is caused by malnutrition and causes the necks of its victims to become stiff.

There was a meningitis outbreak in the country in 1995 when Nigeria lost the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) Under-20 World Cup hosting rights.
