Body of Precious in a casket being conveyed from the mortuary by fellow corp members (FILE PHOTO)
THE killing of the three corps members- Leke Akande, Odusote Adetola and Ibukun Oluwatosin Akinjogbin – in Jos, Plateau State in December 2008 by armed youths with various forms of weapons like dagger in a barbaric manner is yet to be forgotten. And, there have been more cases since then. Who will help us to stop the killing of corps members in Nigeria? I am not happy with how Nigerian leaders are handling the security of youths serving their country. It is a pity to witness the killing of another innocent corps member; Precious Owolabi, last week, during a protest by members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, otherwise known as Shi’ites, in Abuja.

Who is to blame for this unfortunate incident? For me, the huge blame goes to the Federal Government. We have some youths who are thinking of defrauding people of their hard earned money while others are into kidnapping. It is the duty of the Federal Government to protect the lives and properties of its citizens, especially youths who are doing their best to live a good life and be useful to the society.
My advice to corps members in Nigeria, especially those serving in volatile states, is to be extremely careful, prayerful and be vigilant. I call on the Federal Government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari to dialogue with members of the Shi’ites so as to stop them from protesting for the release of their leader.
