Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has says that N5 billion has been set aside to equip schools in Delta Central with furniture in the next 30 days.
He has also restated his commitment to lighting up every nook and cranny of towns and communities across Delta Central Senatorial district.
The Obarisi of Urhoboland, who apologised for his inability to pay a royal visit to the king after his inauguration a year ago, also vowed to rehabilitate and reconstruct school buildings as well as equip more secondary schools with ICTs within his capacity.
He made the disclosure and commitments at the palace of the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Obukohwo Monday Arthur Whiskey Udurhie I.
Omo-Agege said having provided several electricity transformers to some communities, many would still be supplied provided the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) is freely disposed to the move.
According to him, BEDC has appeared not happy with the provision of transformers for new areas, except replacement of moribund ones.
He added that more decrepit school buildings would be rehabilitated, but urged the Idjerhe kingdom to furnish him with statistics of schools and communities needing his intervention.
“Street lights are being installed in all our communities. All our schools must feel our impact.
“More street lights and transformers are coming. We’re bringing more to the communities.
“Renovation and construction of primary and secondary schools classes are still ongoing; 22 primary schools and nine secondary schools.
“I will do as much as I can. We will provide ICTs centres in Idjerhe. Give us specific areas where you need transformers.
“BEDC is not happy with our installation of new transformers in new areas. Give us schools where you want computers, renovation or new classrooms.
“Five billion naira has been billed for furnitures for schools in Delta Central in the next 30 days,” he disclosed, while thanking HRM Whiskey and his kingdom for their ‘uncommon’ support and prayers.
Speaking earlier, the journalist-turned-monarch, HRM Whiskey, had reeled out the pressing needs of his people to the senator as well as offering royal prayers for his success home and abroad.
He thanked the senator, on behalf of all Urhobo people, for the transformers he had supplied to Urhobo communities across Delta Central Senatorial district.
