OML 42 host communities issue 14 days ultimatum to NPDC, others over demands

Host communities to OML 42 have issued a 14-day ultimatum to Nigeria operators of the Asset Management Joint Venture over their refusal to honour a letter from the host communities and several reminders urging them to commence a Field Memorandum of Understanding (FMOU).

The letter dated April 13, 2021, was written on behalf of the OML 42 Host Communities of Odidi 1, Odidi 2, Egwa 1 & Egwa 2, Batan and Jones Creek Oil and Gas fields all in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State.

In a strong-worded statement released, on Monday, on behalf of the OML42 host communities and signed by Chief Samson Oyimi, Amb. Billy Ekele and Hon Shadrack Otuaro, the communities disclosed that Neconde Energy Ltd has been management has refused to address their letter with a discussion proposal slated for April 30, August 5 and 20, 2021.

The OML 42 host communities, therefore, threatened to shut down operations of the facilities if Neconde remained adamant to their demands within the next 14 days.

They added that crude oil production from that facilities would be brought to zero level except the company addressed their demands.

The demands of the OML 42 host communities, made known after an emergency meeting, comprised the commencement of the Field Memorandum of Understanding (FMOU) with the OML 42 host communities and addressing the issue of contracts awarded to OML 42 host communities.

Others included payment of scholarship arrears awarded to OML 42 host communities’ students in post-primary and tertiary institutions, employment of managerial staff from OML 42 host communities into the management of NPDC/Neconde Energy Ltd, FlB execution of projects and the establishment of skill acquisition centres in the OML 42 host communities, among others.

While calling on the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) to caution his men on the rule of engagement during the full commencement of agitation for their legitimate demands, the OML 42 host communities urged other stakeholders to intervene before hell is let me loose.
